4 Essential ChatGPT Plugins Every Product Manager Must Use

ChatGPT Plugins changed the game when OpenAI launched them. Instead of ChatGPT being a glorified text box, plugins turn it into something that can actually browse the web, create forms, track decisions, and translate across languages - all inside the same conversation.

For product managers, this matters. A huge chunk of PM work is research, synthesis, and communication, and plugins speed up all three. I've been testing a bunch of them, and here are four that I think every PM should have in their toolkit.

What are ChatGPT Plugins?

OpenAI announced the launch of ChatGPT Plugins, which extend what ChatGPT can do beyond generating text. Think of them as add-ons you can toggle depending on what you need. The Browsing Plugin, for example, lets ChatGPT actually visit websites and pull in real-time information. That alone makes it far more useful for any research task.

Today, Product Managers can use ChatGPT for Product Research and Product Analysis for free.

4 ChatGPT Plugins for Product Managers

1. ChatGPT Browsing Plugin

Built on WebGPT from OpenAI, the Browsing Plugin is the one I'd install first if I could only pick one. It gives ChatGPT access to the actual internet, so you can ask it to pull information from specific websites, compare products, and research topics using current data instead of relying on stale training data.

Browsing Plugin for ChatGPT

Where this shines for PMs:

  • Competitor research - Ask it to visit a competitor's pricing page, read their latest blog posts, or scan their G2 reviews. You get a summary in seconds instead of spending half an hour clicking around.
  • Market trends - Have it scan industry publications and pull out what's actually new, not just recycled takes.
  • Regulatory updates - If your product needs to stay compliant, the Browsing Plugin can check government and regulatory sites for recent changes.
  • Inspiration hunting - Point it at interesting products and ask it to break down their approach. Fast way to spot patterns you can adapt for your own product.

It essentially turns ChatGPT into a research assistant that goes and fetches information for you, instead of you copy-pasting stuff into the chat window.

2. Speak ChatGPT Plugin

If your product has international users or your team is spread across countries, Speak is worth a look. It translates phrases between languages, but goes further than basic translation by understanding context. The translations tend to sound more natural because ChatGPT gets what you're actually trying to say, not just the literal words.

Speak Plugin for ChatGPT

Where this shines for PMs:

  • Multilingual product copy - Launching in a new market? Get your feature descriptions translated without losing the intended meaning.
  • Reading international feedback - Users leaving feedback in other languages? Translate it so you actually understand what they're telling you instead of guessing from Google Translate output.
  • Cross-team communication - Working with an engineering team in another country? Draft your message in English and get a translation that reads naturally.
  • User research surveys - Translate your research questions for international user testing. Respondents give better answers when questions don't feel machine-translated.

3. Yay! Forms ChatGPT Plugin

Yay! Forms lets you build surveys, quizzes, and feedback forms right inside a ChatGPT conversation. Describe what you want to learn and it drafts the questions for you. It's especially handy when you need a quick survey and don't want to spend 20 minutes fiddling with Typeform.

You might need a paid plan eventually to keep using Yay! Forms through ChatGPT.

Where this shines for PMs:

  • Quick customer surveys - Describe what you need to learn and it generates a ready-to-send form. Takes a couple of minutes instead of the usual back-and-forth of survey design.
  • Beta testing applications - Need to recruit beta testers? Build an application form in the same conversation where you're planning the beta.
  • Usability testing questionnaires - Create post-test surveys while you're still mapping out the test plan. Everything stays in one thread.
  • CSAT checks - Spin up a satisfaction survey and get it in front of customers fast, without the overhead of a full survey tool.

4. Decision Journal ChatGPT Plugin

This one is underrated. Decision Journal logs the decisions you make along with your rationale, then lets you review them later. As a PM, you're making dozens of calls every week about scope, priorities, tradeoffs. Most of those decisions live in your head or get buried in Slack threads. Decision Journal gives them a home.

The real payoff comes later. When you're facing a similar decision in the future, you can look back at your previous reasoning, what you decided, and what actually happened. It's a feedback loop for your own decision-making.

Where this shines for PMs:

  • Tracking product bets - Record why you chose to build Feature A over Feature B. Six months later, you can check whether your reasoning held up or whether you missed something.
  • Risk management - Document the risks you identified and the mitigations you chose. When similar situations come up, you've already got a playbook.
  • Retrospectives - Instead of relying on fuzzy memories during retros, pull up the actual decisions and their context. Makes for a much more productive conversation.

These are the four ChatGPT plugins I'd recommend starting with if you're a PM. The plugin ecosystem is growing fast, and we'll keep updating our blog with curated ChatGPT content for Product Managers as new ones show up that are worth your time.
