Feature voting

A feature voting tool lets customers upvote ideas on a shared board, so the requests most people want rise to the top. The useful ones also stop vote stuffing, merge duplicate ideas, and tell voters when the feature ships.

Buyer's checklist

Votes you can trust.

A raw vote count is easy to collect and easy to misread. Check how a tool keeps it honest.

Who can vote

  • Signed-in or guest votes
  • SSO for your own users
  • Private boards
  • Vote on behalf of a customer

Vote quality

  • Upvotes and downvotes
  • Vote limits per period
  • Priority ratings
  • Merge duplicates, keep votes

After the vote

  • Status updates to voters
  • Public roadmap
  • Changelog link back
  • Jira or Linear sync

Cost

  • Does each voter count toward the bill?
  • Seats vs tracked users
  • Branding removal tier
  • Custom domain tier

How FeatureOS does it

Votes that mean what they say.

Customers vote on a hosted board or from the in-app widget. You choose whether guests can vote, cap votes per period, and ask how badly they need it with priority ratings. Votes follow a post through merges and board moves.

  • Upvotes, optional downvotes and guest votes
  • Vote limits and vote resets
  • Priority ratings on each request
  • Vote on behalf of a customer
  • Votes kept on merge and board moves
  • Voters notified on status change

Questions about feature voting

Have more questions?

Feature voting is letting customers upvote product ideas on a shared board, so the team can see which requests most people want. Each idea gets a running vote count, and voters are notified when its status changes.

Votes are one signal, not the decision. Loud users and large accounts can skew them, so pair votes with priority ratings, customer context and effort, and merge duplicates so counts are not split. See vocal minority bias in our glossary.

In FeatureOS, yes, if you turn on guest votes for a public board. You can also keep boards private behind SSO or whitelisted domains so only your customers vote.

Depends on the tool. Canny counts tracked users, including anyone who votes. FeatureOS charges only for team seats, so voters and end users do not change the price.

Jira has no native customer voting board. Teams run voting in a feedback tool and sync it: FeatureOS pushes posts to Jira as issues and notifies voters when the issue status changes.
